New Renault Espace – Great 2.0 Diesel Performance, But…
For the original Renault Espace comes a new 2.0 diesel 200 hp. It’s brilliant, but his voice makes itself distinctly felt.
A large crossover with mono volume shapes, the Renault Espace does not change a comma of its personal and elegant appearance but is renewed in the engines: in advance of almost a year on the obligation of law, now all models are in compliance with the anti-pollution regulations Euro 6d-TEMP. The version with the already known 1.8 petrol 224 hp updated only in the point-setting, is now flanked by the 2.0 Blue dCi diesel engines of 160 and 200 hp: they replace the previous 1.6 (with 131 or 160 hp).
For all, the gearbox is automatic with dual clutch and front-wheel drive. The updated Renault Espace is already on sale, with prices ranging from € 40,900 for the 1.8 TCe Business EDC (standard: full led headlights, navigation system, rear view camera, electric adjustment seats and security systems such as the inadvertent change warning of lane, automatic emergency braking and reproduction in the dashboard of the road signs) and 51.400 euros for the 2.0 Blue dCi EDC with 200 hp of the test (to the endowment adds the 19 “alloy wheels, adaptive cruise control , head-up display, leather seats, heated, ventilating and with massage function).
Renault Espace Interior
With a panoramic sunroof (1,200 euros) and light Nappa leather upholstery, the interior of the Renault Espace 2.0 Blue dCi EDC 4Controlit’s bright. The wide front seats, very padded and with the side “ears” of the adjustable headrests (to better support the head) are authentic seats, also equipped with various massage functions of your choice. Too bad, however, that the steering wheel is rather inclined forward: it forces to bend a bit ‘too much the wrists. Nothing to complain about the digital instrumentation, which is clear, complete and with the configuration that varies depending on the chosen driving mode, and well organized secondary controls, grouped in the maxi screen in the center of the console and can also be recalled with the keys and knobs below. The space is enough for five adults, even if above the heads there are no inches in abundance (as would be logical to expect from a minivan); sacrificed the third row of seats (1,200 euros), removable from the bottom of the trunk: although well accessible, it leaves an acceptable ease for short journeys only to people no taller than 160 cm. The trunk can be exploited, which has a more than satisfactory capacity.
Renault Espace Performance
The 200 horsepower of the new engine of the 2020 Renault Espace 2.0 Blue dCi EDC 4Control guarantee decisive shots at every rpm: the first impression is that the appreciable time of 9.1 seconds for the “0-100” and the 215 km / h of maximum speed are close to the truth. Nothing angry, though, but an energetic and progressive push, suitable for a car that points to the walking march; to remind us of it is also the Automatic double-clutch gearbox, soft in the passage of travel, but not very prompt and without levers behind the steering wheel for manual gear selection (only entrusted to the central lever). Even the light steering is geared to comfort, but, in sudden acceleration out of corners or on bumpy, it can have strong reactions (it must be firmly gripped to avoid trajectory waste).
The steering rear axle is standard: the rear wheels turn counter-phase with respect to the front wheels up to 50 km / h (to give more agility) and in the same direction to the upper speeds (to increase stability). The theory is reflected in practice, because the Espace is, in fact, manageable, and boasts ready and safe insertions in the curves, given the type of car. Soundproofing has to be improved: the rolling of the tires on the asphalt and the aerodynamic hisses are evident already at low speeds. Moreover, in acceleration, the “voice” of the engine invades the passenger compartment.
Renault Espace MPG
As for consumption, in the test on extra-urban roads partly faced with panache and partly with relaxed gaits, the onboard computer calculated an average close to 12 km/l.
