The 2019 Kia Niro Hybrid crossover is also available in the plug-in version. In the guide, the car is intuitive and silent, but on the holes, it jumps a bit.
Already available in the hybrid version the mid-size crossover (436 cm length) Kia Niro is now also offered in the plug-in variant. The engine remains the 1.6 gasoline-powered unit (141 the overall horses), but the lithium-ion battery that feeds the latter is more powerful (8.9 kWh instead of 1.56) and can also be recharged by connecting with the supplied cable the socket on the Fender Left of the car to a maid (7 hours to regenerate to 100% the accumulator) or to the public columns (in about three hours the maximum efficiency is regained). The Kia Niro 1.6 GDI PHEV DCT Plug-in is already on sale in a single set up at 36,700 euros. A reasonable price for a car of this type, which, among other things, includes involuntary lane change notice, 16 “alloy wheels, Bizone automatic air conditioning, adaptive cruise control, fog lamps, automatic emergency braking, Navigator and the guarantee of seven years (or 150,000 km). The Premium package (2,000 euro) adds full LED headlamps, monitoring of the blind corner of the mirrors and leather seats.
2019 Kia Niro Plug-In Hybrid Interior and Dimensions
In its simplicity the cockpit of the 2019 Kia Niro is assembled carefully and finished with materials not very flashy, but not unpleasant. The space is plentiful: even in five you travel comfortable. Ok also the slightly raised driving position, with rationally arranged controls and a complete dashboard that provides clear information about battery autonomy and the operation of the hybrid system. The only downside is the parking brake, which is activated by a pedal to the left of the pedal board: In addition to not being reachable by the passengers, it is in the way of the feet. The trunk is easily accessible and has a regular shape. However, the different battery below the bottom reduces the capacity compared to that (already not exceptional) of the Kia Niro “normal”: from 427 to 324 liters (with five places in use).
50 km only in electric
Battery charge The 2019 Kia Niro 1.6 GDI PHEV DCT Plug-in starts and travels only with the electric motor. The ride is smooth, silent and with the sprint (61 the horses of the current unit) necessary to juggle in traffic. At the beginning of the test (first in the city and then on the motorway) the board computer indicated 53 km of current autonomy. We have paths 35 practically always in electrical and the instrumentation still guaranteed 15. The 1.6 gasoline can be activated when travelling in electric mode by pressing the button next to the gear lever or in special situations: For example, once you have crossed the 120 km/h. However, when the battery runs out of the “part” thermal motor alone and in Imperceptible way, allowing you to continue the journey as with a traditional hybrid (the “battery” recharges in the slowdowns, when the electric motor, dragged by the wheels, acts as a generator. The same engine, it gives a hand to the thermal one in acceleration).
Also in the Guide “twin-engine”, the Kia Niro 1.6 GDI PHEV DCT Plug-in is fluid and intuitive. The two thrusters respond promptly and provide good panache (at the reach of the “0-100” in 10.8 seconds and the 172 km/h of maximum speed declared) while the robotized gearbox with the double clutch is punctual and never abrupt in the insertions of the gears. The steering is quite precise and not too light allows you to easily set the trajectories in curves and the agility of the Kia Niro is not to be despised. Improved, instead the visibility (behind you see little) and the absorption of potholes and manholes by the suspensions.
New Kia Niro Plug-In Hybrid Pros and Cons
- Cockpit. It offers plenty of space and is cozy.
- warranty. Seven years of coverage, even on the hybrid system, are a good reassurance.
- electrical mode. With approximately 50 km of autonomy, you can use only the current for short daily travel.
- Trunk. It is not very capacious: it loses 103 liters compared to the “normal” Niro.
- parking brake. The pedal is uncomfortable and not reachable by the passengers.
- suspensions. They don’t always absorb the disconnections of the road well.
