The zero-emission flagship of the American Lucid promises 832 km of autonomy and will arrive on the market in the spring of 2021, although it can already be ordered online.
Lucid has finally unveiled the definitive version of its first car. Lucid Air, a luxury electric sedan. The first version was unveiled as early as 2017 before the American company ran into some financial problems. It is definitely very similar to seemingly simple but elegant lines, making it a true premium flagship.
With the Air, Lucid followed a California-inspired design philosophy that shines throughout the vehicle, particularly with the color schemes.
LUCID AIR, A CLEAR CHALLENGE TO TESLA
The company, founded by the father of Tesla Model S, Peter Rawlinson, ran into financial problems after a promising start, which was then solved thanks to an injection of capital from the Middle East. It is evident how Lucid Air was designed and produced to challenge Tesla. And in a media preview last week, CEO Peter Rawlinson actually made several references to overcoming Tesla, saying it ” will be the new leader in electric vehicles .”
And if the data reported by the Arizona automaker were to reflect reality, the gauntlet would undoubtedly be thrown. The flagship model, the Dream Edition, promises an incredible range of 800 km, 1,080 hp of power, and the ability to recharge 482 km of range in just 20 minutes, thanks to the 924-volt architecture.
Confirmed price of $169,000. We then move on to the Grand Touring, $139,000, whose range is even higher, 832 km, but “only” 800 HP of power, with the same charging speed.
The Air Touring will also arrive at the end of 2021, offering 653 km for $95,000autonomy, 620 hp, while maintaining the same charging system. Lastly, in 2022, there will be the entry-level simply called Air, whose specifications have not been revealed.
Confirmed for the two top models, the 113 kWh battery and the 19.2 kW AC charger, with the interesting feature of bi-directionality. This means that Air is already ready for Vehicle-To-X, thus powering a home or exchanging charges with another car.
The engine with a power of 500 kW, is about 2.5 times lighter than the Tesla engine. With the same power. Which means only 74 Kg. The whole system ends up being about 17% more efficient than the Tesla Model S, and, of course, with the slightly larger battery pack, it would beat Tesla’s current range (640 Km).
LUCID AIR INTERIOR
The interiors are different from those proposed on the prototype unveiled a few years ago. Most of the changes took place in the rear seat, which Lucid significantly toned down in the production version. And it is in the cabin that the Lucid Air really shines.
