2020 Dacia Duster Engine Specs & Fuel Economy

With the new 1.0 three-cylinder 101 HP turbo, the 2020 Dacia Duster pushes what is needed and does not “scream” too much. But the gearboxes are opposed. Low the price, but there is no automatic braking, and not only.

For the compact Romanian SUV, the novelty is the 101 HP 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine, which replaces the 114 HP 1.6 (not supercharged, has an extra piston and remains, for now, only in the LPG).

Unlike all the “thousand” engines of the competition, that of the 2020 Dacia Duster is indirect, rather than direct injection: it is cheaper to produce and does not produce particulates, making the use of the exhaust filter superfluous.

It is available in all trim levels and is combined with the five-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive. The arrival of its LPG variant is also expected in spring 2020: it will use a system by the specialist Landi Renzo which will be mounted directly at the factory.

2020 Dacia Duster Price & Configurations

Price is one of the strengths of the Dacia Duster, which also convinces with its “decisive” and modern forms. The Access starts from just $13669 but is really Spartan: even the radio and the on-board computer are missing.

The most “centered” is the Comfort, which has manual air conditioning, the multimedia system with the navigator,  Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and the rear parking sensors.

The Prestige Cost $18263 adds automatic “climate”, better coatings, a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring and more. T

he Techroad Cost $19159 is a Prestige with a different aesthetic package, the electronic key and little more. None, however, can have other modern driving aids, such as automatic emergency braking, lane maintenance, and adaptive cruise control.

The interiors of the Dacia Dusters are discreet: the dashboard has personal, almost “important” forms. Everything is made of rigid plastic, but the whole is made with some care. And there is no lack of pleasant details such as the “climate” wheels (single-zone only).

The multimedia system is mounted a little lower, but it is rather fast and there is no shortage of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Only one, however, the USB socket (moreover in an uncomfortable position, on the upper part of the screen frame): if it is occupied, the only way to recharge a phone or tablet is to take advantage of the 12-volt socket at the base of the console. Lots of space onboard, both for people and for luggage: the large tailgate gives access to a large and regularly shaped compartment.

2020 Dacia Duster Performance & Fuel Economy

The three-cylinder of the Dacia Duster is not undersized: it has little grit before the 2000 rpm, but then pushes with a certain vivacity.

When cold, he notes vibrations at low revs and his “voice” is heard but, once it has entered the temperature, both attenuate.

The ratio of the five-speed manual gearbox is adequate (at 130 km/h the “mille” works at 3400 rpm without making itself heard). However, in the tested car the grafts were quite contrasted: perhaps also because of the fact that he had done a few hundred kilometers. And, as on the other Dacia, the automatic alternative is not provided for in the 2020 Dacia Duster as well.

Obviously, the other strengths and weaknesses remain unchanged: even before 100 km/h, the rolling noise is clearly noticeable while the steering is light and sufficiently precise. Consumption was at least discrete, at least according to the on-board computer: after a hundred kilometers of highway and up and down hills, it reported an average of 14 km/l.
