we got the chance to try driving a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E, the First Electric SUV of the Mustang Series.
“Ford needed a new SUV,” says Stuart Rowley. In order to materialize our commitment to respect the environment, it made sense that it is electric. But, we do not sell a car just because it’s zero emissions. First of all, she must like it. It is from this reflection that we have come to make it a Mustang. And that changed everything. Internally, the project generated incredible enthusiasm. ”
A few hours before its public revelation at the Los Angeles Show and more than a year before its commercialization in France, we were able to make a few kilometers aboard this new SUV called Mach-E, with reference to the Mustang Mach 1 of 1969. This is certainly a pre-production model but we have been able to realize that alchemy operates.
2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E Design, Size, Interior
Visually first. With its 4.71 m long, its impressive hood, aggressive front, and muscular forms, the Mach-E transposes with some happiness on an SUV Mustang codes. Onboard, the Tesla inspiration is evident, with a very clean dashboard integrating the center a huge 15.5-inch touchpad.
This interface makes it possible to manage all the parameters of the car. Starting with the three driving modes offered (Comfort, Normal and Sport), the comfort, navigation and connectivity functions, but also the FordPass system. The latter locates the terminals, informs you about their availability in real-time and allows you to pay for the recharge.
This new-style Mustang embodies the latest evolution of the Ford SYNC system. It is compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and AppLink, to retrieve all the apps from its smartphone.
Wanted very intelligent, this infotainment system also learns to know you and adapts to your habits, your tastes, to make driving and life easier. Unlike Tesla, the dashboard hosts a small digital instrumentation block in front of the driver.
Mustang being above all synonymous with sport and performance, we wanted to check that the original spirit had not been misguided. Sustained pressure from the test pilot on the accelerator reassured us. Ford claims a time of 5.5 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km / h. Not bad for a juggernaut of more than two tons! Strong, it is true, with a power of 337 horses and a maximum torque of 565 Nm, available instantly. This vigor is accompanied by an artificial regulatory noise, certainly discreet but which, while listening, evokes, all the same, the rumble of the big V8.
Built on a new platform for electric vehicles, the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E is offered in two or four-wheel drive, with two types of the lithium-ion battery: standard 75.7 kWh or “extended range” of 98.8 kWh. It is located under the floor, between the wheels, which allows to lower the center of gravity and generously accommodate five passengers, while leaving two luggage compartments; one of 402 liters at the rear, increased to 1,420 liters by folding the backs of the seat, the other 100 liters in the front.
2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E Price
For the RWD (propulsion) version, whose price starts at $54,269, these accumulators correspond to a power of respectively 258 hp and 285 hp, a maximum range claimed of 450 km and 600 km (WLTP). The 4-wheel-drive version is powered at 337 hp with the big-capacity battery thanks to the combination of a large 210 kW engine on the rear axle and a 50 kW front-mounted module. Note that a super-equipped First Edition AWD version will be available for launch at a price of $76,324.
Finally, the range will be completed in the summer of 2021 with a high-performance GT version of 465 hp, equipped with a sport chassis, 20-inch wheels (instead of 19), large Brembo brakes and the MagneRide adaptive suspension.
All Mach-E comes with a charger that allows you to recover 35 km of autonomy per hour on a traditional socket. With the optional Wallbox; the load reaches 51 km per hour.
