2020 Volvo V60 Redesign – Facelift of The Volvo Cross Country
The 2020 Volvo V60 Redesign grows in size, price, and equipment. Springing and soundproofing are of quality and the 310-liter 2-liter pushes firmly, but not all finishes impress. And the automatic transmission does not have “pallets”.
2020 Volvo V60 Dimensions Changes
Change in everything, except in the name. Compared to the model it replaces, the new Volvo V60it is longer than 13 cm, reaching just 18 cm from the V90 (with which it shares the mechanics, except for the air suspension, which are not available on the V60). The price, however, is leavened: if first for a diesel D3 150 hp starting from 35,100 euros, now they need 3,310 more. The increase, however, is also justified by the finishes (decidedly improved and practically at the level of those of the “usual” German, which cost about the same figure) and security systems. For the latter, the V60 offers as standard the anti-shock warning, the full led headlights, the lane maintenance system, the traffic signal recognition camera and the automatic emergency braking. The most advanced driving aids,
Interior & Trunk Volume
The growth in size went hand in hand with that of the trunk, which is now 529 liters with all the seats in use, and 1441 with the sofa down (in the previous generation were 430/1241). If before it was one of the smallest, today it is by far the widest, in the first case, in comparison with those of the Audi A4 Avant, BMW 3 Series Touring and Mercedes C Class. On the contrary, however, compared to rivals the Volvo V60 it is about 50 liters smaller by lowering the back of the sofa. The compartment, then, is large, well finished and of regular shape, but disappoints for the double bottom, irregular in shape, and that only in some places reaches 17 cm in height. In addition, the loading platform that normally hides it remains lifted only thanks to a strap with a hook that hooks to the upper seal of the loading mouth: a rather “poor” solution. And it is covered only by a light preformat in not perfectly cut felt, which leaves a few cables and the two control units for the Volvo OnCall remote communication and assistance system and for the electronic shock absorbers (€ 920).
2020 Volvo V60 Redesign Interior Comfortable and well finished
Like the other recent Volvo cars, the interior of the 2020 Volvo V60 is a nice place to spend time: materials and fittings convince and shapes do not mimic those of German rivals. The lines are minimalist and light colors, while the controls are almost all grouped in the 9 ” screen, responsive and easy to use. For the air conditioner, however, we would have preferred to have physical controls, also identifiable by touch, that distracts less from driving. Abundant comfort for the occupants, even behind and above the head: thanks to the generous step of 287 cm, on the sofa the space for the knees is lazy.
The engines of the Volvo V60 are all 4-cylinder but have refined solutions to try not to regret those to 6 of the rivals. The T6 of the proven car, for example, combines a volumetric compressor with a turbo: the first sends compressed air to the cylinders up to 3000 rpm, when a magnetic clutch disconnects it. From here on, only the turbo “works”, which can thus be larger in size without risk of excessive delay in response to low revs. The result is a vigorous shot since the early laps, while the electronically controlled all-wheel drive helps to unload all 310 horses to the ground. To look for the hair in the egg, the roundness of operation is not that of the 6 cylinders (especially those in line) that rivals offer, but the performance is there.
2020 Volvo V60 Changes
Also promoted is the Volvo V60 eight-speed automatic transmission (standard, produced by the Japanese Aisin), which combines speed and sweetness of change. To limit consumption, however, it tends to keep the engine in the lower area of the tachometer, with the result that (except in Dynamic mode) there is a lot of pressure on the right pedal to make it climb a gear. It does not help the manual mode, which can only be controlled by moving the lever: the steering wheel paddles are reserved for sporty R-Design versions, which will arrive during the summer.
In spite of the power, the 2020 Volvo V60 however, it is not a car to drive “with the knife between the teeth”: the steering is precise enough and of the correct weight, but it is preferable to drive without “edges”, penalty an Esp that comes into operation soon enough, even in Dynamic mode (when the delivery becomes more ready, the gearbox takes more advantage of the low gears and the electronically controlled shock absorbers become stiffer). Like on other models of the house, Pilot Assist is also a great help to reduce stress at the wheel, but it is far from perfect. In our test, the car “read” a highway exit like a right lane, taking it without reducing the speed that we had set at 120 km / h (the limit on Spanish motorways). If nothing else, compared to other recent proven Volvo,
2020 Volvo V6 Pros and Cons
- comfort. The electronically controlled suspension, comfortable seats, good soundproofing and silent engine ensure relaxing trips.
- finishes. The interior convinces with materials and fittings.
- security. A lot is standard, even on access versions. And there is no lack of more advanced systems (optional).
- Virtual commands. At least for the main ones in the “climate”, we would have preferred buttons and wheels, which are less distracting when driving.
- Palette behind the wheel. They are reserved for the most expensive R-Design versions: which, for now, can not even be ordered.
- Double bottom. Electronics and exposed metal and the miserable string that keeps the top out of tune with the car interior trim.
