2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid Configurations

The 2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid has a sportier appearance and with the new 2.0 combined with an electric unit is not lacking in panache, there is also a less brilliant version, with a 1.8

The heir of the Auris returns to its origins, taking up the historic name Toyota Corolla, which identifies one of the most successful cars in the world or, better said, the best selling car of all time. Proposed with a 5-door body and station wagon (Touring Sports), the new Toyota Corolla is only available in the Hybrid version, with two different systems with a total output of 122 or 179 hp. 437 cm long (four more than the Auris), has a slender line, very personal, which does not upset the style of the outgoing model, but accentuates the sportiness, thanks to the greater width (179 cm, 3 more) and the roof lower than four centimeters (now the height is 144 cm). “Bad” the front, with the pointed headlights and embedded in a thin band that crosses the front and the large air intake in the bumper.

Built on the new modular platform, also used for the Prius and Rav4, with batteries under the rear seats, the 2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid has a stiffer structure of 60%, with the center of gravity lowered by one centimeter compared to the Auris, and offers a greater habitability (the wheelbase, the distance between the center of the front wheels and the rear wheels, has increased by 4 cm). The hybrid system consists of the petrol engine, located under the front bonnet, combined with two electric motors, one of which is a generator. The 2020 Toyota Corolla 2.0 Hybrid has a total output of 179 hp (but there is also the 1.8 that has 122 horses) and, for the home, can run at zero emissions up to the maximum speed of 115 km/h.

2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid Interior

Minimalist in style, the interior of the Toyota Corolla Hybrid is spacious and elegant. The two-colored dashboard has few physical buttons and clean lines; in the center stands the large screen of the cantilevered multimedia system; below is the voluminous central tunnel. Take care of the plastics (soft), the visible seams; the leather and fabric seats are large and comfortable. Too bad, however, that the adjustment of the seats is jerky, with a lever anything but practical to use. On the other hand, the dashboard is clearly legible and offers all the information you need, even though the large and detailed 7 “high-resolution screen in the middle. The trunk is small, with a capacity of only 313 liters (in four you need to travel light).

Performance

At home also in traffic, the 2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid E-CVT is a manageable and not very fatiguing car. In the departures, in electric mode, it moves quietly, but at the traffic light, this version of 179 Horsepower knows how to shoot with a certain readiness. The 2.0, assisted by the electric unit, is not very noisy and has a sweet, but full delivery (the answer is more ready than the 1.8 Hybrid version). The alternation of petrol and electric operation occurs in a very fluid way, and in slowdowns, the action of the electric motor brake (to recharge the batteries) is well matched with that of pliers and discs. Good recovery, especially at low revs.

Improved in this 179 bhp version also the continuously variable transmission E-CVT (with six simulated gears), very progressive, which manages to contain (but not completely disappear) the annoying “scooter effect” (in which the engine thermal rises a lot of revolutions if you speed up decisively) typical of this type of gearbox. In addition, it seemed practical to us the system that allows you to vary the intervention force of the engine brake (for energy regeneration), by acting on the left-hand steering wheel paddle. The effective hybrid system allows you to “sail” to zero emissions, when you need little power, at a constant speed, turning off the 2.0 up to about 115 km/h. In term of fuel economy, the distance that we read on the onboard computer, 16 km/liter, obtained on fast roads. As for comfort, they play in his favor, in addition to good soundproofing, the suspensions that absorb the road disconnections and limit the lateral leaning of the car when cornering. Moreover, on the mixed one appreciates the direct and precise steering of the Toyota Corolla Hybrid.

2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid Pricing

Already ordered, the Toyota Corolla Hybrid has a starting price of 27,300 euros, in the less powerful version, the 1.8 with 122 hp. Four outfits: Active, Business, Style and Lounge; all of them come as standard with the Safety Sense package, which includes a number of driver assistance systems, such as emergency braking with anti-investment function, lane keeping, camera detecting road signs, automatic high beam, and even the adaptive speed regulator (set cruise speed, the car follows the flow of traffic, accelerating and braking, until stopping, if the front car slows down). If desired, you can add monitoring of the blind corners of the rear-view mirrors and the head-up display (which projects some information on the windscreen), in the Tech package: 1,200 euros, only for the Lounge, which also comes as standard without a smartphone cable.
