All-new, the 2020 Peugeot 508 is a slender five-door, agile and with a 177 bhp 2.0 diesel fluid. The small steering crown, however, covers part of the dashboard.

The largest of the Peugeot sedans (475 cm in length) is renewed from top to bottom: with the previous Peugeot 508it has only the name in common. The new model has flowing lines, which blend elegance with sportiness, and a strong personality. The look is almost coupe and in the back is well camouflaged a large hatch (the old one had the trunk separate from the cockpit).
The 2020 Peugeot 508 is based on the platform of the Peugeot 308, 3008 and Rifter, but is differentiated by the more sophisticated multi-arm rear axle (ensures precise control of wheel movements). As for the engines, the choice is between the 1.6 petrol 181 or 224 hp and diesel units: the 1.5 with 131 hp and 2.0 from 163 or 177 horses. All are combined with the eight-speed automatic transmission; only the 1.5 turbodiesel also offers a six-speed manual one.
For Sale, Availability & Configurations
The Peugeot 508is already on sale (first deliveries in October) with prices included between 30.350 euros of 1.5 BlueHDi S & S Active with 131 hp (standard, among other things, keyless access, 16 “alloy wheels,” “bi zone” climate, emergency braking and lane maintenance) and 45.150 of the 2.0 BlueHDi S & S EAT8 GT with 177 bhp of the test. The latter comes as standard, the 18 “alloy wheels, the navigator, the” intelligent “suspension and driving aids such as adaptive cruise control with assisted driving (following the flow of traffic, the device can accelerate and slow down the car alone and keep it in the lane of the road because it operates independently the steering, with the driver who only has to keep his hands on the steering wheel). Among the options, the Night vision stands out (1,000 euros): a system able to “see” moving obstacles at night by reproducing them in the dashboard and alerting the driver of a possible danger. The special edition First Edition (€ 48,000) is no longer available: all have been sold.
The doors have frameless windows (like those of some coupes) and allow easy access on board. Elegant and personal, the cozy cabin of the Peugeot 508It is made with care. In the case of the GT of our test, we appreciate, in fact, the refined upholstery of the leather seats and Alcantara and the wood finishes of doors and dashboard. The latter is arranged “stepped”: original and also pleasant, also because of the keys (metal type) “piano” on display in the console, which gives access to onboard services grouped in the large touchscreen of 10 ” .
A solution, however, rather cumbersome since, to change the temperature, you have to enter the specific menu of the monitor, distracting from the guide. In addition, the small steering wheel (32 cm high and 35 wide) will appeal to sportsmen, but it is not so practical: the upper part of the crown partially covers the instrumentation in the thin dashboard (raised above the dashboard). To partially remedy the problem, Peugeot 508 all the way down and lift the seat, assuming, however, a driving position that is not always comfortable. And the space? It is more than enough for four adults; for three, the sofa is not too comfortable, and who sits behind has so comfortable for the legs (high longitudinal excursion of the front seats), but if it measures more than 180 cm in height, it touches the ceiling with the head. A limit, this, which represents the price to pay to a streamlined body but not to the point of penalizing the trunk, large and easy to access being only 68 cm from the ground.
2020 Peugeot 508 Performance, Fuel Economy, Driving
In the Test, the 2020 Peugeot 508 2.0 BlueHDi GTit is a successful compromise between agility and comfort. Thanks to the “intelligent” suspensions, the irregularities of the road are absorbed properly, despite the 235/40 R 19 sports tires (600 euros). Soundproofing is effective. Only when accelerating does a certain roughness of the engine emerge, which pushes smoothly and with good progression (even without “scratching”): the “0-100” in 8.3 seconds and the top speed of 235 km/h appear within reach declared. The automatic transmission is soft when changing from one gear to another and, in the Sports mode of the five selectable with the button in the console (the steering response, engine, and some on-board services also change), keeps more “up and running” the engine. Once the special function has been inserted, the eight speeds can also be selected manually. through the vanes integral with the steering column.
Too bad that this possibility is not combined with the Sports function, which makes the response of the engine and the steering slightly weighted down. The latter is precise and, with the contribution of the small steering wheel, quite direct. In short, the curves are brushed along the trajectories, with the pleasant sensation of driving a lighter and more compact car than it actually is. Finally, consumption: with a sometimes brilliant and sometimes relaxed drive, on the motorway and on hilly roads, the onboard computer calculated an average distance of about 13.5 kilometers with a liter of diesel fuel. with the contribution of the small steering wheel, quite direct.
