Crossover with fluid shapes, the 2020 Mazda CX-30 offers precise driving, rich equipment, and good comfort. But the 122 Horsepower 2.0 hybrid doesn’t push much.

The Mazda CX-30, which can already be ordered and is due for delivery in mid-September, is a crossover that derives from the recent 3 sedans and stands halfway, in terms of prices and measurements (it is 440 cm long), among the smallest CX- 3 and the larger of CX-5.
As usual for the cars of the Japanese house, the shapes do not give up a bit of sportiness: the rather long engine bonnet, ending in a wide mask connected with the thin headlights, the windows are small and the rear part is tapered.
The absence of frills gives a certain elegance, even if the practical black plastic protections that surround the lower part of the body seem too extensive.
The Mazda CX-30 is diesel (1.8 of 116 hp, Euro 6d-TEMP approved) or hybrid “light” (mild hybrid, already Euro 6d), in which a 2.0 petrol engine is combined with an electric motor of 7, 9 HP, connected to the first by a belt and which gives an accelerating hand and acts as a starter motor, it is powered by a small lithium-ion battery, which is recharged by the same current unit in slowdowns.
Of the 2.0 there are two models: one with 122 hp, the other with 179. The latter is the innovative SkyActiv-X, in which, like for diesel engines, the start of combustion takes place by compression. to feel the house, a consistent reduction in consumption ensues.

The interior of the Mazda CX-30 is elegant. The sinuous plank, with a clearly horizontal development, boasts a pleasant cover in eco-leather and classic but not trivial shapes. Particular is also the “climate” vents, which on the right are part of a grid almost half of the dashboard, while on the left they surround the dashboard.
Their functionality, however, is not the best, either because they do not have a wheel to adjust the range, or because, given their position, they tend to blow directly on the driver’s right hand, or on the passenger’s chest.
The dashboard has three large round dials, with the one in the digital center; readability is easy, as is the management of the other controls, including those of the two-zone “climate”, which are (rarely) raised.
The multimedia system, which also has modern graphics, would, however, benefit from having a closer touch screen, because using Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and the navigator via the knob in the tunnel requires a bit too many steps. Furthermore, information is not repeated in the dashboard.
In general, the finishes are of a good standard, with leather seats and details taken care of in the most visible areas; the plastics in the lower part, however, remain “poor”, and the drawer in the dashboard, opening up, gives a little glimpse of the mechanical elements behind it.
Driving Position & Trunk Cargo capacity
The driving position of the Mazda CX-30, not much raised, allows easy access, is comfortable and boasts many adjustments of the electric type.
Behind, space is enough for two adults (noticeable ease for the head, minus that for the legs) and the sofa boasts comfortable padding also in the center, the width, however, is not exceptional.
Then there are two vents of the “climate”, but no outlet for recharging mobile phones, you can still take advantage of the USB under the large front center armrest, which is coupled with the one in the console.
The 422-liter trunk is large in absolute and well exploitable, even if in the category some offer more space and the sliding sofa; at 74 cm from the ground the load threshold.
Who cares about the sprint can turn to the 2020 Mazda CX-30 SkyActiv-X, from 179 horses: the 2.0 hybrid with 122 hp that we drove little drives at low speeds, and especially in sixth requires patience to see the speed increase.
Of course, taking full advantage of the four cylinders with frequent use of the excellent manual gearbox (the couplings are as precise as they are fluid) the performances are more than acceptable: the declared data prove it, with 10.6 seconds in the “0-100” and 186 km/h of the peak.
But instead of going up to 6000 rpm, making the roar of the engine grow considerably, it is more natural to take advantage of the fluidity of the operation and the remarkable noiselessness at low revs to move quietly, grinding kilometers without getting tired, also reassured by the good cornering behavior, with precise, low-weight steering and reduced roll.

Driving in this way, unexpected averages are held and even little is consumed: we have seen in the on-board computer 15 km/liter, a result that seems to us of all respect even in relation to the official value of 19.6 km/liter.
2020 Mazda CX-30 Price & Configurations
The preparations of the Mazda CX-30 are four, and all of them provide a good price ratio. The Mazda CX-30 Evolve already has the 16 “alloy wheels, the dual-zone automatic” climate “, the rear parking sensors and the multimedia system with Apple Carplay, Android Auto, the navigator, and eight speakers.
