2020 Cupra Formentor Concept – From the sporty brand of the Seat comes the sporty Formentor SUV, a hybrid plug-in style full of personality.
The first model of a new brand is always the most challenging for designers, who must invent from scratch a distinctive style that will be applied to the following models. This also applies to the Cupra, the sporting brand of the Seat, which after the separation of 2018 (previously the suffix of its sports models) had to create an identity. To express it is the prototype Cupra Formentor, an SUV with a grinning look that makes its debut here at the Geneva Motor Show and anticipates the first car developed independently by the Spanish brand, which is still integrated with the Seat for all aspects technicians.

The Cupra Formentor is an SUV with a strong character, starting from the front fascia full of openings for cooling and thin headlights, upwards to make the “look” more expressive. A nice touch of sportiness comes from the scratches on the front hood and the ripple on the side, which visually joins the front wheel arch with the rear one. The tail is very personal, thanks to the descending roof, the inclined rear window, and the large spoiler. The four exhausts and the rear air extractor are typical of sports, while the taillights are a detail inspired by the Seat Tarraco, which according to rumors should “lend” the backbone to this SUV.
Interior & Hybrid
The interior has a look less “extreme” than the body and, in fact, appears rather sober. Sports seats with a carbon fiber shell stand out, as well as a flattened steering wheel at the bottom, while the digital instrumentation and the 10 “touch screen in the console are essential technology concessions even on a sports car.
To push the 2020 Cupra Formentor there is a plug-in hybrid system totaling 245 hp, which uses rechargeable batteries from the outside: in electric mode, according to the first information, the Formentor can travel up to 50 km. The prototype is also equipped with the DSG Automatic gearbox and active trim control, to vary the springing according to the road.
