2020 Audi A6 Avant Review – Comfortable & LUXurious
2020 Audi A6 Avant is comfortable and, with the new 204 bhp 2.0 diesel, responsive and pleasant to drive. To be integrated, however, the standard equipment.
2020 Audi A6 Avant Redesign & Changes
All-new, the largest of the Audi wagons (494 cm long) has a similar appearance to the previous ones, with sleek lines and a very sloping rear window, which gives a nice boost. In addition, the rounded fenders make the sports car and give the impression that it is really anchored to the ground; given the elegance of the whole, however, the two badly integrated radars in the large front mask are out of tune. The 2020 Audi A6 Avant is already on sale in diesel versions with automatic transmission (dual clutch for 4-cylinder models) and front-wheel drive (for the 204 bhp version of the test) or full-wheel drive.
The choice is between 2.0 from 204 hp and 3.0 to 6 cylinders with 231 or 286 hp. All versions are homologated as hybrids, even if the “mild hybrid” system (which with the 3.0 engines operates at 48 volts, instead of at 12) does not transmit the power of the electric motor/generator directly to the wheels.
In any case, the manufacturer promises a certain reduction in consumption and emissions, thanks to the presence of the generator that recharges the specific lithium-ion battery (powers the onboard services) during the slowing down of the car, and also acting as a silent and efficient starter motor, allows you to extend the periods in which you move without using a drop of fuel: the diesel engine turns off every time the car drops below 22 km / h, and if you release the accelerator between 55 and 160 km / h (sailing function).
2020 Audi A6 Avant Equipment
Prices start at € 56,250 for the Audi A6 Avant 40 TDI S tronic (the 2.0 diesel) with, as standard, the system that keeps in lane, the dual-zone automatic climate control, the full led headlights, automatic emergency braking (always active), the navigator and the electric opening for the tailgate. The most expensive is the Audi A6 Avant 50 TDI four Tiptronic Business Design, with the 3.0 from 286 hp: 70,200 euros (standard, four-zone air conditioning, and leather seats).
Considering the high prices, it is amazing to have to pay extra for the system of reproducing the road signs in the dashboard (245 euros), monitoring the blind spot in the rear-view mirrors (1,100 euros, in the package together with the device that warns of the presence of traffic behind the ‘car in reverse gear), for adaptive cruise control (with Stop & Go function, 1,530 euros in the Tour assistance package), for the Dab radio (520 euros) and for the rear camera (570 euros).
2020 Audi A6 Avant Interior
The cozy interior of the Audi A6 Avant blends the elegance of the black lacquered finishes and the aluminum inserts (careful matching of the various elements) with technological details such as the digital dashboard (virtual cockpit, € 2,220 in the MMI Plus package with more refined navigator): rich in information, it also allows you to view the 3D maps of the navigator in full-screen mode. With two other screens in the console (high-definition and color) all the onboard services are managed: given the many features, a minimum of apprenticeship is required to manage them better. Other unconvincing aspects are the pockets in the doors without soft anti-noise coating (there is only the rubberized bottom) and leather (mixed with suede fabric) provided for the seats in the S line package (2,840 euro): it is not so pleasant to the touch.
Comfortable low and relaxed driving position; the Sports comes standard with sports seats, more enveloping and with removable support for the thighs, but the electrical adjustments cost € 1,170. The space for passengers is not lacking at all, but the sofa welcomes only two people well: the third has between the feet the high bulge in the floor and the cabinet with the sought after and practical touch screen for the air conditioning (standard for Business Sport). Nothing to complain about the trunk, easily accessible (the threshold is only 60 cm from the ground), fully finished and with a good capacity.
The 204 horses of the 2.0 diesel of the 2020 Audi A6 Avant do not regret too much the more powerful 6 cylinders. Well supported by the fast and gentle double clutch Automatic gearbox, they always respond promptly and push hard, without raising the “voice”. The good performances declared (8.3 seconds for the “0-100” and 241 km / h maximum speed) seem to be within reach. Ideal for travel in couples (effective acoustic insulation), the Audi A6 Avant also convinces with the agility, notable for such a large car. The merit of precise (and light) steering, of the rapid front axle in the curves, but also of the electronically controlled suspension (1,370 euro): reduce the roll and, despite the 245/45 R 19 lowered tires, effectively absorb the disconnections of the road. In the test on exurban roads with curves and continuous ups and downs also faced with panache, the computer calculated 11 km / l.
