2019 Opel Combo Life Review – Spacious but Noisy
The 2019 Opel Combo Life is a multispace that does not only rely on the large interior and the considerable load capacity. It offers a pleasant ride and a good comfort. But some internal details do not fully satisfy.

The Opel is part of the PSA group and here is the 2019 Opel Combo Life to take back most of the bodywork of the multispace “cousins” Citroën Berlingo and Peugeot Rifter, with whom it shares the same base. The front, however, clearly shows the style of “home”, with the large mask that houses, in the upper part the logo Opel “framed” by two chrome friezes; larger than the French, even the headlights. Wide glazed surfaces, which allow good visibility in all directions. Overall, the appearance is traditional and “important”. In addition to the “short” version (440 cm: this is the one we drove) the new Opel Combo Life there is also in the 475 cm variant that requires an extra € 1,200; both can also have seven seats: in the first case, the two seats of the third row cost 600 euros, while the “long” Combo makes them spend, to have them of a sliding type, 650.

As soon as you enter the Opel Combo Life, you perceive a feeling of space and brightness that makes you feel at ease. If you think you are dealing with a van that is “adapted” to passenger use, it is not on the right track, and the confirmation comes from the car driving position: the steering wheel is not inclined forward, the steering wheel is rather small in diameter and the pedal board is well aligned with the seat. Great space is also available for those who sit behind: the second row of seats, well accessible through the sliding doors, consists of three independent armchairs and equipped with a series of Isofix attachments that allow you to mount three child seats, one next to the other. However, the seat is a bit short (does not support the thighs well) and a few inches more in width would not hurt.
Furthermore, the tiny dimensions of the armrests in the rear doors do not help to find a really comfortable travel arrangement. The interior of the Opel Combo Life has a modern and pleasant look, but if you stop to examine the plastics, you can not help but notice that they are all rigid, those of the central console, in particular, really “light”; however, the assemblies are cured, as confirmed by the absence of crunches during the test. On the other hand, there are lots of objects: there are 28 of them; to underline the great capacity of the one between the front seats that contains two bottles of water of a liter and a half.
2019 Opel Combo Life Interior Features
Valid the layout and functionality of the controls, including those of the “climate” manual (for automatic temperature control, in the Advance version, which we have tested, we must pay € 470). Easy to use and easy to use the multimedia system, which is operated via an 8 “touchscreen, and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems. There are three USB and 12 V plugs and, for 70 euros, even 230 V. However, there is no lack of a courtesy mirror applied to the sun visors. Among the strengths of the new Opel Combo Lifethe load compartment (which can also be accessed by opening only the rear window) is very capable and very regular in shape; another “plus”, the load threshold just 59 cm from the ground (it does not “break” the back when you have to lift heavy loads). Also worthy of note is the possibility of folding the front passenger seat to the wall, so as to form a flat load compartment for stowing objects up to 270 cm long (but this feature is not free: 220 euros).
Engine Specs & Performance
The 2019 Opel Combo Life it is available with a 1.2 hp three-cylinder petrol engine with 110 horsepower and 1.5 with four-cylinder diesel engines of 75, 102 or 131 hp. The guided version was equipped with the intermediate power turbodiesel, which, according to Opel, will be the one on which customers’ requests will be concentrated. The 1.5 proves convincing from the low regimes: already from 1500 rpm begins to push regularly, and then become quite lively from 1800; the 12.3 seconds for the “0-100” and the 175 km / h maximum speed declared by the house seemed to be within reach of the car.
The silentness of the engine is noteworthy (it does not raise too much the voice even when the “overtime” ones are requested) and the good qualities of the economy (if confirmed in the next test on alVolante): during the test, on mainly motorway routes, and with a part in the city, the onboard computer calculated a consumption of 16 km / l.
The Opel Combo can easily drive the lightness of the clutch pedal, the steering precision and the effectiveness of the suspension in digesting the roughness of the road. The cornering of the bodywork in the corners is quite evident: at the wheel of the 2019 Opel Combo Life is certainly not invited to a sporty driving, which, moreover, is not in the ropes of this type of car. The five-speed manual transmission does not make the sixth feel too much, but the insertion of the reports is a bit contrasted. The car can count on standard driving assistance systems such as automatic emergency braking, road sign recognition and the warning of unintended lane changes.
In addition, it can have the IntelliGrip, an electronic control of the “advanced” traction proposed at 800 euros, combined with all-season tires and 16 “alloy wheels: by rotating a knob between the seats, it allows you to choose between five different answers for the accelerator, traction control, and brakes, making it easier to drive on low grip surfaces.
