2019 Kia Ceed Sportswagon Review: Comfy and Spacious
The 2019 Kia Ceed Sportswagon is more sporty and, at the same time, offers more space for luggage and passengers (but rear accessibility is not the best). The 140 hp 1.4 petrol is brilliant; softer than quick, the double clutch transmission.
Lower and 2 cm wide than the previous generation, the Kia Ceed Sportswagon (like the other models of the house, guaranteed 7 years or 150,000 km) has a more sporty and pleasing line, thanks to the front, with the gritty shaped mask “Tiger’s nose” and the elongated headlights with the four light diodes of the daytime lights.
Behind, the inclined rear window and the spoiler give impetus to the line, without imposing sacrifices on the load capacity (which, indeed, is significantly improved compared to the old model). The car, at the side view, does not appear “heavy”, due to the play of the ribs on the sides and the line of the windows. The Evolution (the guided version, the richest) has 17-inch alloy wheels and dark rear windows as standard.

Inside, the 2019 Kia Ceed Sportswagon reveals a modern style, with a pleasant plank and well connected to the door panels; the central console, slightly oriented towards the driver, is dominated by the 8 “tablet screen of the multimedia system (includes the navigator with 7 years of free updates, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and the Dab radio).
Even the “climate” zone is standard, but the two central vents do not have a wheel to adjust the air flow. It should also be noted that the glove compartment in front of the front passenger (not refrigerated) is small, and the other rooms, however numerous, are not very large. The seats, in leather and fabric and with electrical adjustments for the left one, are comfortable and hold the body well even when you drive sport (they are well profiled).
The sofa of the Kia Ceed Sportswagon can accommodate three adults without too many sacrifices: it is wide and flat, and the floor without risers in the central area does not bother those sitting in the middle. Too bad that accessibility suffers a bit ‘of the cut of the doors. The load compartment houses a 12 V socket and a hanger hook and is among the most capacious of the category (625 liters with the sofa in use and 1694 with reclined back). The floor (under which the double bottom is located, divided into five large rooms) is flush with the threshold (only 64 cm from the ground) and also flat with reclined back.
Engine Specs & Performance
The Kia Ceed Sportswagon is available with a 1.6 turbodiesel, in two levels of power (116 and 136 hp), while in petrol there is a 1.4 hp from 99 hp, a 1.0 three-cylinder 120 hp turbo and a 1.4 (also supercharged and with direct injection) of 140 HP; the latter equipped the test car.
Well “tuned” with the double-clutch gearbox (more “gentle” than quick in the response), it is powerful, fluid and regular; at regimes just above the minimum, it suffers a slight delay in the throttle response and then becomes lively. The 9.4 seconds for the “0-100” and the 205 km/h maximum speed declared by the house in the presence of the robotized gearbox seemed to be within reach of the car.
The silence of the 2019 Kia Ceed Sportswagon engine is noteworthy (at 130 km / h, in seventh, works at 2500 rpm) and economy characteristics (if confirmed in a next test on alVolante): during the test, on extra-urban routes and citizens, the onboard computer calculated a consumption 15 km / l (the homologation figure is 15,5, on average).
2019 Kia Ceed Sportswagon Safety Features
The cornering of the bodywork in the corners is rather limited: the 2019 Kia Ceed Sportswagon accepts sport driving without problems, also because, compared to the past, the front suspension has been slightly stiffened and the steering is more direct: the cornering is now more ready. Braking is good, but if the system is stressed thoroughly it loses a bit of “mordant”.
Driving assistance systems (which were not present on the old model) improve safety and reduce stress, even if the lane maintenance system tends to intervene (with slight turns) quite a bit earlier than necessary. It is included in the Advanced Driving Assistance Plus package (2,000 euro), which also includes monitoring the blind spot of the rear-view mirrors, the camera that “reads” the road signs by replicating them in the dashboard, the device that warns of possible collisions in reverse and the adaptive cruise control. As standard, however, are the automatic emergency braking with anti-collision alarm and the system that warns of the excessive weariness of the driver.
