2018 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Price, Reviews, Pros and Cons – In over 50 years, the Porsche 911 has been able to live up to itself, maintaining, first, some classical themes of his style (like the shape of the headlights, the trend of the roof and the sides are wide), mechanics (primarily, the rear engine “cantilever”) and especially of philosophy: for extreme performance, remains one of the most versatile sports, to use every day. The 4S of our test, then, is equipped with all-wheel drive, which allows use without worries even on snowy or slippery in general funds.

If you put them side by side the first Porsche 911 of 1963 and the current model, there is a clear continuity in the style of the bodywork and Interior. Here is found the classic arrangement with two front seats and rear folding seats. But other aesthetic similarities, are always the characteristics of sportiness and versatility to do as a thread to the different generations that have taken place in over fifty years. With this latest model, however, the technological leap is remarkable. First, the engine always mounted behind the rear axle, boxer and is a six-cylinder biturbo, rather than aspirated; the ROAR has lighter shade roche classics aspirated engines Porsche, because the (double) turbocharger. On the other hand, this three thousand has a boost outstanding (420 horses, 500 Nm maximum torque), and also knows how to be gentle. Now, the Porsche 911 not denied: wants to be a sports car to use every day. To enhance performance and comfort, also provides optional PDK (3,599 euros), a dual-clutch seven-speed robotized a breeze, especially in the more sporty driving modes, and fluid in the peaceful uses. When you go hard, instead, you can count on the Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (uses electronically controlled locking rear differential to increase the pressure of one of the two wheels around and change the trajectory of the car). The four wheel steering (optional for over 2,300 euros) contribute to enhancing agility in mixed routes, while all-wheel drive of the 2018 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S makes life easier when the ground is slippery. Pity that, alongside many “gems” technology, there are optional not as “noble”: how the necessary parking sensor (over 1,600 euros, rearview camera included) or electrically folding mirrors, standard drive well cheaper than this.

The area in front of pilot and front passenger Porsche 911 classic themes such as re-proposing dash to the five elements and the ignition key on the left. Technology, instead, the Navigator, by series, showing satellite images and information about traffic in real time. Among the features of the multimedia system there are also the Apple Car Play (to manage apps a iPhone from the center console) and the traceability of the car from their mobile phone. But this is first and foremost a Coupe to drive: the seat is low and the controls (even the palette of the optional PDK, which rotate with the steering wheel) are at your fingertips. May disturb, though, the buttons on the “climate” placed too low (too bad that, in some light conditions, the air vents are reflected in the windshield).

The thin but comfortable, leather seating, there is enough space for his legs, in width and in height (the low chairs help). Electrical adjustments are an optional extra for over 2,000 euros. The places behind, instead, however well finished are two folding seats: very little space above the head and feet (plus you’re huddled with his back almost vertical). And it is difficult to access.

It has a rated capacity of 125 liters and manages to contain a pair of trolley, still leaving some centimetres available for a garment bag. If you need to upload more, just tilt the rear seatbacks to get two additional shelves (capacity declared is more 260 liters).

The “three thousand” six-cylinder turbo wheels that is a pleasure, but her voice is a bit difficult to “Digest” for lovers of aspirated boxer. Forcing the pace, Esp intervenes in a very progressive and powerful brakes have proved. Driving safely, instead, you get respectable mileage: 12.7 km/litre on the basis of our test.

On the highway. Long journeys are not too stressful: 130 km/h, in seventh gear, optional PDK keeps the engine just 2200 rpm, and the ROAR becomes a pleasant background. Consumption is “decent”, 10.5 km/liter, but we must take care not to exceed the speed limits (Adaptive cruise control is optional: over 2,200 euros), and it is difficult to see at the edge of small mirrors (useful for blind spot sensors, more options to be included in the “shopping cart”).

2018 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Pros and Cons

WHY YES

  • Exchange. The dual-clutch PDK robotic applies all 3,599 euros it costs: combines comfort and performance, and is matched to the electronically controlled rear differential.
  • Guide. The Porsche 911 is very exciting between curves. Part of the credit goes to the numerous electronic devices on request, from the rear steering wheels.
  • Engine. The 3.0 boxer pushes strong, but he can also be gentle when needed. Shame about the sound, not that of the old Porsche engines sucked.

Why not

  • Optional. Some devices (electrically folding rear-view mirrors to the speed controller) should be standard in a car of this price.
  • Air conditioning. The controls are a bit too low: distracting. Also, when there’s light out, the vents in the dashboard are reflected (sometimes annoyingly) into the windshield.
  • Rear visibility. Precious camera (with distance sensors) and also the sensors for the blind spot mirrors: behind you see very little.
